What is upcycling – and why is it more important than you think?

He’s not “just” a dog owner.
He reads the ingredients – for himself and for his dog. When he chooses, he doesn’t look only at the price, but also at the system behind the product and the values it supports.

Maybe you’re like that too.
Upcycling is exactly about this.

What is upcycling – and how is it different from recycling?

Recycling often means downcycling: a raw material that has lost its original function returns to the cycle at a lower value. Upcycling, in contrast, creates added value.

In the food industry, this means that nutrient-rich ingredients remaining from raw materials originally grown and processed for human consumption do not end up as waste, but instead become the basis of a higher value-added product. Not as compost, not as a by-product, but as the result of a conscious decision.

Upcycling is therefore not a trend, but a shift in mindset: recognizing that value often lies where we previously saw waste.

How does the EBKEKSZ model work?

SUPERJUICE produces cold-pressed vegetable and fruit juices. During pressing, a pulp rich in fiber, antioxidants, and plant nutrients remains.

In most systems, this appears as a by-product. For EBKEKSZ, however, this is the core ingredient.

The essence of the model is simple: the fiber remaining after producing juice from human-grade ingredients does not become waste. Instead, a licensed partner, Mancskonyha Ltd., carefully bakes dog biscuits from it with professional expertise. In this way, a valuable ingredient receives a second life, guided by the same uncompromising quality philosophy.

Both companies believe that we are what we eat. That is why their products are made from human-grade ingredients, without additives, colorants, or flavor enhancers – not as a compromise, but out of conviction.

Why isn’t fruit fiber waste?

During cold pressing, the juice is extracted, but the fiber retains plant fibers, antioxidants, natural flavors, and micronutrients. These are not worthless residues, but concentrated sources of nutrition.

The essence of upcycling is recognizing this value and not discarding it, but responsibly giving it a new function.

How much food is lost globally?

Approximately one-third of global food production is lost or wasted each year. This is not merely a statistic: behind every wasted ingredient stand water, farmland, energy, transportation, and human labor.

Upcycling does not solve the entire problem, but it can intervene where it truly has impact. Change is rarely spectacular – more often, it is consistent.

What does this mean in a dog owner’s decision?

A treat is a small thing. Only a few centimeters in size, yet it goes beyond itself.

When you choose a sustainable dog biscuit made from upcycled ingredients, you are not simply taking a product off the shelf. You are supporting a system that reduces waste, is transparent, and creates real value from what others might consider semi-finished waste.

This decision is quiet – yet it shapes the future.

Your dog is not passionate about sustainability.
But you are. And sometimes that is just enough to decide differently.

The story of EBKEKSZ begins where others stop. With a simple realization: too much value ends up in the trash, when it could become something good – like a treat for dogs.
